"Fire Breather" press release courtesy of GRIT PR
Press release - Feb 1, 2010 - GRIT PR:
Fire Breather” Tibetan video goes viral with the anticipation of The Unravelling’s debut album release in the spring.

Worldwide—With over 30,000 views and rising, the “Fire Breather” video’s presence on YouTube has certainly made an impact. Coming across as a band with a philosophy, The Unravelling has created a cult-like following that continues to grow as fast as the hits on You Tube.
This is music with a real message; heart pounding music for the masses that forces the listener to think. Just as the “Fire Breather” Tibetan video is a raw depiction of a wicked truth, and thus being a powerful musical piece, their new album “13 Arcane Hymns” is sure to be a worldwide hit filled with music with a message.
""Fire Breather" was written as a stream of consciousness, states The Unravelling’s Steve Moore. There was no particular theme in mind besides the very personal lyrics. After recording the song and reading the news in 2009 of the intensive struggle of the Tibetan people, and how on some occasions the Tibetan monks would even set themselves on fire as a means of protest - self sacrifice, I was amazed at the parallels between their struggle and the lyrics in the song, and I'm happy it has this kind of double meaning now."
There is no doubt that The Unravelling makes one think, listen and open their minds to a wider world view and awareness. Hailing from Calgary, Canada, the members are inspired by a very diverse range of artists, such as Dead Can Dance, Tool, Opeth, Nine Inch Nails, Arcana, Jeff Buckley and Dillinger Escape Plan. At first listen an audience can without a doubt hear those influences. Especially in “Fire Breather,” a strong Opeth and Nine Inch Nails vibe is felt. Pure Grain Audio describes their sound as “tactfully diverse music that’s overflowing with a bloodthirsty passion.” Here's the video - but be fore warned - it's very graphic and disturbing:

In the piece, when asked about the ultimate direction of The Unravelling, Gus responds "I’m seeking an outlet for our art where hopefully we can inspire people to feel empowered and able to take on challenges they would have previously avoided. All of us have so much potential within ourselves, but life seems to get in the way and make us passive, rat-racing sheep." Read the full interview here.

The Unravelling vocalist Steve Moore recently wrote a review of industrial greats Skinny Puppy's recent Vancouver performance at the Rickshaw Theatre November 3rd. The main purpose of the article was to bring some more attention to Skinny Puppy's return, as there hasn't been much press about them recently. The more fans of this excellent band, the better. Check it out here or buy a copy at your nearest retailer.
Also, more newly mastered tracks have been added to the music section. This must mean the album is coming soon. Guaranteed to be sooner than Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland.

London, England-based entertainment publication Clown Magazine recently gave "13 Arcane Hymns" a top review, saying "Now what do you get that’s different from this progressive rock metal band that you don’t get with other bands? First you get a powerful clear sound from the music, which I haven’t heard before to be honest, and secondly good lyrics delivered by Moore’s powerful voice whether sung quietly as in the rock sense and then the loud in the metal sense."

We have also found that many international publications and radio shows have become very interested and supportive of what we are doing. Things are changing, and a wave is forming beneath us. We won't forget this, we will return the generosity, and you are all now a part of what The Unravelling is becoming.

STALKER MAGAZINE reviews The Unravelling
Finland-based publication STALKER Magazine recently reviewed the preview version of The Unravelling's "13 Arcane Hymns", saying "The influences are obvious, nevertheless there is no copy or fake, you can hear the relations with the musical roots, but the creative power and the ideas of De Beauville & Moore open new perspectives and a wide range of feelings and mysteries. And how Steve Moore expresses himself with his voice from whispers to clear singing or extreme deathmetal-screaming is very impressive. An excellent debut, strong and complex with a lot of attention to the detail, very well recorded and mixed."

I was reminded of old Priest or even Ozzy after he parted ways with Sabbath, not the music specifically but the same "Is God going to strike me down the next time I go near a Church since I've been listening to this?" feel. EVERY song on this album is killer."

Not to mention we have a lot of b-sides and potential remixes to post for members of the site. It's been a busy time and it's about to get busier in a beautiful way.
Here's a beautiful Bill Hicks quote I'd like to share here as well:
"We gotta come to some new ideas about life folks ok? I'm not being blase about abortion, it might be a real issue, it might not, doesn't matter to me. What matters is that if you believe in the sanctity of life then you believe it for life of all ages. That's what I hate about this child-worship syndrome going on. "Save the children! They're killing children! How many children were at Waco? They're killing children!" What does that mean? They reach a certain age and they're off your fucking love-list? Fuck your children, if that's the way you think then fuck you too. You either love all people of all ages or you shut the fuck up."
